The Schindelbruch is full of history and stories. On the site of the princely hunting lodge built in 1928, a mountain inn was later built, followed by a company holiday home in GDR times. After reunification, the ensemble of buildings was privatised, converted and the "Harzhotel im Schindelbruch" was opened. However, the property was abandoned in the 1990s.
An almost accidental discovery led Dr Clemens Ritter von Kempski to the southern Harz region in the mid-1990s. The land around the Auerberg and the beech forests around Stolberg have stayed with him and his family ever since. They have long since felt at home here and have put down deep roots. Dr Clemens Ritter von Kempski would like to share the feeling of happiness that nature in the Harz region gives him with all guests and staff at the Naturresort Schindelbruch and the partner hotel FreiWerk.
Dr Clemens Ritter von Kempski saw the potential and laid the foundation stone for the hotel in 2003 with the purchase of the site, which today shines as a tourist beacon far beyond central Germany. He realised his vision of an ecological hotel business: since 2009, the Naturresort Schindelbruch has been the first wellness hotel in Germany with a fully offsetcarbon footprint and a leader in sustainability and CSR/ESG. After many expansions, extensions and conversions, the bathhouse was opened in 2013 - the pearl of the Schindelbruch and a favourite spot for wellness guests. The resort's latest jewel is the Landresidenz, which was completed in spring 2021.
