In the middle of the green hotel park, you will find a highlight of Schindelbruch cuisine: the "Jagdhaus Holzeule" restaurant. The rustic taproom of the historic half-timbered house offers an atmospheric contrast to the main building - a beautiful stage for regional specialities and exclusive BBQs on the adjoining summer terrace.
The Josephskreuz has been attracting visitors to the Großer Auerberg since 1834. However, the wooden structure created by Karl Friedrich Schinkel was struck by lightning in 1880 and burnt down almost completely. In 1896, the new double cross was erected as an iron construction.
In 1928, the Princes of Stolberg Stolberg have a hunting lodge built halfway up to the mountain peak - and also use preserved wooden beams from the first Joseph's Cross.
The princely "Schindelbruch Hunting Lodge" gives rise to the landscape village of the same name.
